Bicycling ocean tides deposit crowds at local zoo

Nazy and I decided to take advantage of the …

“… Pacific Ocean,” I explained. “I had it installed nearby so that we could enjoy a beach walk.”

“Did you check the tide chart?” Nazy replied. “Or can you arrange that too?”

As usual, Nazy was right. Personal experience involving a misstep on a wet rock followed by being drenched (up to my underwear) by an unseen rogue wave reinforced the appropriateness of Nazy’s query.

Note to self: Do not (ever) turn your back on the ocean.

I had, of course, checked the tide
before suggesting a walk. The weather was beautiful and the walk ….

“ … would be nicer if we didn’t have to trudge down 250 steps,” Nazy said.

“I don’t mind the steps…” I began.

“Really, Dan?”

“The 250 steps that go
down are fine. But as I’m descending, I can’t help but think about the 250 steps at the other end of the walk, eh, hike.”

Regardless, the ocean is beautiful.

Tiger spent the weekend in Los Angeles visiting Mitra and Stefan. While he was away, Nazy and I decided to take Arrow to the zoo. It was..

“… clear, Nazy.” I said when I saw the ‘parking lot full’ sign, “Indeed, v
ery clear that we weren’t the only people with this idea.”

“Let me handle this Dan,” Nazy replied. She stepped out of the car and asked the parking attendant if I could drive into the lot to drop her and ‘the baby’ off.

“Of course!” He replied.

“Drive right in, Dan.” She instructed.

“Yes, dear,” I replied. “
How does this help?” I thought I drove straight to the pedestrian entry gate where I dropped off Nazy and Arrow.

Somebody may be leaving,” Nazy whispered as I loaded Arrow into the stroller.

“Take your time getting out. You may be able to grab a parking space…”

“Okay..” I began.

“But if you can’t find a place here, see if you can park nearby.”

“Of course, my dear.” I replied. “
Nearby? Are you kidding? The closest parking place is in Arizona.” I thought.

I was at the state border when Nazy telephoned —

“… what’s taking you so long?” She asked.

“I had to stop for gas before I left the state,” I replied.

“Come back. It’s very crowded at the zoo, but you can try again.”

I drove the car back to the zoo parking lot entrance. This time, I told the guard that I was simply going in to pick up a baby and his elderly grandmother.

“Elderly?” Nazy interjects with scorn.

“I was using that mischaracterization purposely, Nazy.” I explained. “So he would let me in.”

We loaded Arrow into the car,
collapsed his stroller and were heading out when I saw…

“… a vacant parking spot!” I exclaimed. Several cars began to race toward the spot, but I was closest.

We parked and entered the zoo. It was Disney Princess Day - a day featuring costumes and crowds. Arrow, Nazy and I took a ride on the train around the zoo. We watched the gir
affes eat lettuce, saw the elephants playing with a ball and observed the penguins approach, but not enter, the water. Along the way I saw that the animals inside the cages has more space than the human visitors. We left shortly thereafter.

While we were at the zoo, Mitra and Stefan were teaching Tiger how to ride a two-wheel balance bicycle. I asked about it while taking him to swim class. “A two wheeler, Tiger?” I asked. “I don't think
you can ride one of those.”

“Yes, I can, Dan!”

“It’s too complicated for a three year old.”

“I am three and half.”

“But a two wheel bike is too hard. You can’t..”

“Yes! I can.”

While we were driving, he heard the name of the current occupant of the White House on the radio.

“That
Trump is not smart, Dan.” Tiger observed. Accurately.

Nazy, also listening to the radio, heard the interviewee:

“He says that Mueller’s investigation has lasted too long,” Nazy commented.

“This is the same guy who sponsored 9 investigations (over three years) of Hilary and Benghazi. He created a new one every time the previous one didn’t find anything wrong.” I replied, “The same guy who has no interest in investigating the disaster that killed four American soldiers in Niger. He doesn’t care about truth and, because of his association with this administration has even lost contact with the entire concept of truth.”

“Even Democrats are saying that the Muller investigation is taking too long. They want to sue ..”

“The Democrats are also wrong. I’m willing to wait until Mueller is finished. Of course, it won’t matter what he finds if the Republicans continue to control Congress.”

“Come on, Dan. If the..”

“I used to think that the Republicans had no backbones, but now I think that many of them actually believe the drivel spewing from the
Tweet House.”

“Surely not.”

“We can always fall back on Stormy Daniels and Michael Cohen. Those situations are much simpler to gras
