sad and heavy coin collection sits on wap with googles

Excitement continues to build for 2019 coming events — a sharp contrast to the current political situation which features a stunning collapse of dignity and craven ‘presidential cowardice. He..

“ … changed his mind about opening the government with a proposal that passed the senate 100-0, because Fox News criticized him, Nazy.” I explained. “He is afraid of Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh. It’s..”

“… pathetic, Dan.”

“And counter productive. The only time the
president’ is not shooting himself in the foot is when he’s reloading his gun. He’s ‘leading’ a kakistocracy — government by the inept. He is a poster child for the seven deadly sins: sloth, envy, greed, pride, anger, gluttony and lust.”

“.. and shouting ‘witch hunt’ and ‘no collusion’.”

As January unravels, Nazy and I, well, mostly Nazy, have been going though the boxes that, unlike the car, have been parked in the garage. We found my photo ID from Georgia Tech. As you can see (in the photo below, taken when I was approached about playing James Bond) there is almost no change 40+ years later.) We also found Darius’ collection of..

“… foreign coins, Dar.” I explained during a telephone call.

“What should..”

james Dan

“It weighs about 60 pounds. More than the two largest Santa Barbara grandchildren combined.
“So..”

“So I can’t mail it to you.” I continued. “
I can’t move it without a forklift,” I thought, massaging my back.

“Do you want to keep it until..”

“I was thinking of removing, say, ten coins a day. I’d give five to Tiger and five to Arrow. Then I’ll take them to the Santa Barbara Arcade and let them — encourage them — to throw the coins into the turtle fountain.”

“You want to dispose of the coins that I so carefully collected for more than a decade?” “Yes.”

“Get all the nickels. The nickel in them is worth more than 5 cents.”

“Interesting. I also found your collection of Iraqi dinar. The paper in them is worth more than the face value.”

‘Yes, but..”

“They look really good. I was thinking of either framing them or using them as part of The Martin Family Monopoly game collection.”

Nazy and I picked up Tiger from school this week and, on the drive home, I decided to teach him ..

“… a very sad song, Tiger.”

“Sad, Dan?”
“Yes. I always cry when I sing this song:

Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don’t think that I can take it
It took so long to bake it
And I’ll never have that recipe again
Oh no!
OH NOO!

Rainbow SB Jan 2019

“Dan!” Tiger interrupted. “Stop!”

“Look at the rainbow, Tiger.” Nazy interrupted. “
Don’t scare the boy,” Nazy whispered.

The rainbow showed up in between daily storms this week. It actually rained every day this week. As a result..

“… the drought status for Santa Barbra County has been changed from ‘Severe’ to ‘Moderate’.”

“Wow!” Nazy replied.
However, the rain has stopped this weekend… and no more is forecast for the next 7 to 10 days. Almost all of any year’s rain arrives in January, February and (the first half of) March. To catch up and end the drought, we’ll need really good rainfall over the next two months. Good, steady rain but thunderstorm-free and not arriving too quickly. Several burn scars remain from the recent fires.

Meanwhile, (the amazing) Azelle continues to grow and develop. She can roll over and she is reaching for anything in her field of view. But…

“.. why is she playing with her feet, Dan?” Tiger asked.

“I think that she’s just discovered that those feet are attached to her.”

“Dan..”

“And she can move them. All by herself. She’s holding on to see how it works.”

“Dan! She can’t even talk.”

Arrow, meanwhile, has graduated to private swimming classes. Amazing me, he even agreed to wear googles. (However, a swim hat seems to be a step too far.)

“He’s been watching Tiger,” I explained. “He wants to do the same things.”

“That’s right, Dan.” Nazy replied.

“In fact he wants to do whatever Tiger is doing. Any time and any where.” I continued.

“And if Tiger has it Arrow wants it.” Nazy noted.

“Yep.” I replied. “
And vice-versa,” I thought.

Arrow has become much more verbal. He’s enjoying school; when I picked him up this week, he wanted me to meet his best friends ‘Ethan’ and ‘Ava’. He has a bit of trouble pronouncing ‘L’ and ‘Y’ and ‘R’. So, when he asks to sit on my ‘wap’, he means ‘lap’. It’s a bit like learning a foreign language. (It could be worse. We had a friend who’s son substituted ‘F’ for the ‘Tr’ sound. Unfortunately, his favorite toy was a truck.

As we move back to normality, Nazy has resumed painting. She’s in the midst of a new effort that will depict the
Keukenhof flower show in The Netherlands. Naturally she still has ‘wap’ time for the grand(est) children.
